Tawaf is one of the few acts of worship that is visible from
the sky as a unified movement. Individual pilgrims — each with their own niyyah, their own history, their own supplication — merge from above into concentric rings of motion that circle the Ka'bah without end. This painting captures that: the individual subsumed into the collective, the collective oriented entirely toward a single point.
The title, Orbit of Faith, comes from that visual truth. The
Arabic word tawaf shares its root with the idea of circumambulation — going around — and in physics, orbit describes the same movement applied to celestial
bodies drawn by gravity. This painting holds both meanings at once. The crowd moves as planets move: pulled, drawn, constant. And at the centre, unmoved, the Ka'bah.
