The title comes from the Ayah of Light — Surah An-Nur, 24:35 —
in which Allah describes His light as light upon light, nūrun 'alā nūr. The image earns that name not by depicting it literally, but by holding the feeling of it. Two sources of light in the frame — the candle and the glow of the Mus'haf's gilded cover — and around them, the deep dark that makes light visible at all.
The reading glasses are the element that grounds the piece in
